Thank you for writing for me this year. <3 I put this post together to elaborate on my requests and give you some ideas if you're stuck.
( The new52 Flash comics, Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series, Jackie Chan AdventuresCollapse )
Please don't be discouraged at how much there is for the Flash and how little for everything else. I've been obsessing over the Flash lately, so that's where a lot of brain-power has gone. I would still love either of the others, I just have many fewer thoughts on things about them that I want.

Not really doing much, though. I'm still rebageling things on Tumblr, still hanging out on plurk and Flight Rising. But I'm not really creating anything new right now, and I'm definitely not talking very much.
I'm really enjoying the new Flash show. Season two just came out, and Tai and I are gleeing over it so much. Season one was really good, even if there were things that made me want to yell at the writers. Like the love triangle. We would have been so much happier without that in our lives.
Yuletide is coming up, so I'll be keeping a closer eye on things so I sign myself up in time. I'm also going to try to work on some old memes in order to get my writing muscles back into shape. I've seriously, seriously been neglecting my writing.

Because I really, really want to write some League of Legends stuff right now. Also open to Star Wars (original trilogy, Thrawn books, Unsung Heroes, and Cadets) and AtLA. No LoK, because I'm still not caught up on that.
Usual rules: three requests, I promise to finish at least one even if it takes me forever and a day. Don't try to play stump the author, I am so not in the mood for that. (Seriously, people pulling that shit is one of the things that makes these unfun.)

Rereading old entries, I find an AU meme I never got around to finishing... from 2010. And some of the AU prompts intrigue me, and make me wish I'd written them or will write them.
Just. Five years, man. Should I even bother?

WIPs defined as "things I am currently even thinking about poking at".
1. An arm in a sling was a damned awkward thing for a firebender.
2. In the Shadow Isles, there was no square inch of land that didn't hold someone's remains.
3. Sivir threw her blade, her vision nearly going black from pain.
4. Behind his sunglasses, Agent Jones watched humans pass by.
5. Nebula's only memory of her first life was of sitting in her mother's lap while her father told them star-stories.

I don't remember why this wound up on my Amazon wishlist, but Charles bought it for me for Christmas. It was a short book, and the back cover copy implied killer mermaids, so I started reading it. Most of the first half of the book continued to heavily imply killer mermaids, but we never did get those except in a very loose, metaphorical sense.
Our pov character, Ricky, gets the job as the summer lifeguard at Mermaid Inn in a small Alabama Gulf Coast town. People warn him to be careful - seems last year's lifeguard disappeared mysteriously, and the town has a history of people vanishing. Just one or two every few years. Generally young men.
(As an aside, Ricky is gay, which plays a major part in things in a spoilery way.)
Given Ricky's reoccuring mermaid nightmares and finding the town history with it's mix of mermaid legends and disappearances, the first part of the book works hard to sell you on the idea of killer mermaids. So I was really disappointed when nothing ever came of that.
( Quick SpoilerCollapse )
The book felt too short, and not in a good way. The ending was rushed. The way the story was paced, it should not have ended where it did.
So yeah. Unless you feel the need to read all the LGBTQAI YA out there, give this one a pass.

Many apologies for the really belated letter. I work retail, so the last few months have been pretty rough.
1. Wall of Night - Helen Lowe; Malian of Night, Aravenor
Shippiness, please. Something set after "The Gathering of the Lost". I was shipping them throughout the book, but the stuff at the end made me squee and want more of them.
Not really sure of anything else to say here.
2. Secret Six; Catman, Deadshot
More of these two being best friends who are not very good at it, please.
To give you some ideas, I especially love the sequence in canon at the bodega when the two of them are buying ice cream for Scandal. It really emphasizes that they're friends and not good guys. I also liked the bit in the Blackest Night issue where there's a bit between Deadshot and one of the Suicide Squad guys:
re: Catman
"Is he dead?"
"Isn't the guy supposed to be your best friend or something?"
"Yeah, maybe. So is he dead?"
A couple of Yuletides ago, Tirieal wrote me this amazing piece. Friendship~ :D
*coughs* So yeah. Those two. And their friendship. I'm not at all familiar with where either them are in nu52, so I'd prefer to stick with the canon before that.
3. League of Legends; Lux, Darius
Again, shippiness, please. I ship these two hard. There's a lot of common ground for them in their dedication to duty and what it's cost them. Too, I think they'd be good for each other. Lux to help Darius with missing Draven, Darius to help Lux with her PTSD. (Seriously, read Lux's Judgment.)
Please set it in the world where the Institute of War and the League of Legends still exists. Riot removing that aspect of lore recently cast me adrift in terms of head-canon. Way too much of my character interactions are based around the League. Because when the hell else are some of these people going to meet under polite circumstances?

For the first time since their imprisonment, the demons are able to return to Earth. There are cracks in the walls of Hell, and the weakest are slipping back into Creation. Hell is hungry, though; to avoid falling back in, they have to possess humans.
For some of them, including the PCs, this is a massive shock - something in the humans they possess resonate with them enough to help them push away the torment of Hell. For the first time in aeons, some demons remember being fallen angels.

I am planning to run a campaign set in Demon: the Fallen, one of the games under the classic World of Darkness umbrella. Looking to do it as an online, tabletop-style game. Maybe meet on a biweekly basis (I work retail, and we're heading into Holiday).
If you think this sounds interesting, here are download links for pdfs of the Core Rulebook and the Player's Guide.
Drop me a line if you'd like to play, have questions, etc.!

Like, I just want to discuss how fucking miserable our League games were tonight. Except I also don't, because I want to put it as the furthest thing from my mind.
I want to go pro with my boys. But nights like this just cut my confidence out from under me. If three out of five of us are playing are best characters, and two-fifths of the enemy team doesn't show up for the first eight minutes, and we still lose...
I know the lag-spasms where three or four of us just disconnected for a minute here and there helped nothing.
I know people have bad nights, I know the lag, I know it's not a sign that I suck and should quit. But I don't feel it. I just feel misery and dejection.

Went through and pruned some of my fanfic from FF.Net. Mostly pieces I've come to not really like. All of them have copies on this LJ, though, so you can still find them if you think they're cool.
Well, today is a miserable day at work. Big truck to process and put out on the floor, we're short a person, and the air-conditioning has broken.
Went on a major League of Legends spree yesterday. ARAMs, Dominion, Rift. I pretty much rocked at ARAMs, except for when I was playing Twitch. I'm still not good at getting him through his early levels effectively against live players.
But I rocked people's faces with Fiddlesticks. 15/5/25, whoo! Pulled in 39 or so assists on Soraka, but that happens when you roll one of your mains.
Then there was game Sam rolled Sivir and I rolled Cho'Gath. We were both "uh, no", traded immediately, and proceeded to rock people's faces with champions we were comfortable with.
Dominion was fun. Played Janna, because I've yet to find someone who suits my style and the Crystal Scar better.
The Rift games didn't go so well, but I played competently. Not sure how to counter Mordekaiser mid, though. I was holding my lane against him, but that's all I was doing. He had too many hit points for me to chip away at them without him doing me major harm.

It's weird. I know I'm in a bad place mentally, but I don't feel it. I think that means my medication is working. Or my current project is too enthralling. But I'm doing the thing where I take one of my favorite OCs and put her through hell. Not to bring her out the other side, but to wallow in her pain and misery.
So! My current project! Feed the Beast (one of the big modded Minecraft communities) is holding a modpack competition. You have to create a modpack, a map to go with it, and a quest line to tie the map and the modpack together.
I am having so much fun putting this together. I'm doing a pretty free-range map with the main work on my part being finding a seed I like and building the starting area. The rest will be generated as the player wanders the world. Although, since I've overflown a lot of the land near spawn, I can take that account writing my quests.
It's 1.6.4 Minecraft, so I still had to sort out block and item IDs. But that's all done. The modpack is complete, except for me modifying recipes to make things inter-dependent on each other. I just need to finish the quests, some other info books I want to provide the player, and build what I'm visualizing at spawn. Then I can ship it off to a few beta-testers.

My friend Liona has been watching her way through a horror playlist on Youtube. She recommended this one to me as a gem, and she's darn right it is. A group of teenagers of varying levels of likability and intelligence decide to hold a Halloween party at an abandoned, presumably haunted funeral home. As you do. Then they decide to hold a seance, which awakens the local demon, because it'd be pretty boring otherwise.
Pretty standard killing-off of various characters. If you're into sex, you don't make it out of the movie alive. But, get this:
The black guy is the Final Boy.
Seriously, when we got down to the last two people alive, I was all but gnawing on my hand to see if he'd actually make it out alive. And he did! :D
The Final Girl was pretty cool. I am always fond of people who can do makeshift flame-throwers. She also tended to panic a bit less than the black guy, but eh. You take what you can get.
The opening and closing book-ends of the movie were really kind of freaking weird. Also, high amounts of gratuitous nudity in the film. Though I was pleased that the reaction of one of the guys to a demon-possessed girl doing seductive dancing was "this is getting too damn weird, I'ma leave". Especially since he's made it pretty clear he is into sexy funtimes earlier in the movie.
Complete movie available on Youtube.

Livejournal is under new management, so hey. Might as well get back in the saddle again.
What have you recently finished reading?
The Temeraire novels up through Crucible of Gold. Luna finally convinced me to start reading them, and I just tore through the series. So good. Laurence and Temeraire. <3 Granby and Iskierka. <3 Napoleon. <3 Tharkay and Demane and Sipho and Emily. <3 The Emperor of China nagging Laurence to get married. <3
What are you currently reading?
The Internet of Elsewhere: the Emergent Effects of a Wired World by Cyrus Farivar and Fifty Plants That Changed the Course of History by Bill Laws. Knowledge is power. Also, learning all these things they never really bring up in school is really cool.
What will you read next?
Blood of Tyrants by Naomi Novik. Yes, I am going to finish up the currently released run of Temeraire.

Apparently, when you are Le Nora, you can write Batman fanfiction with the serial numbers scrubbed off and publish it.
Also, you're really good at it. But come on, we're talking about Nora Roberts here.
Our heroine, Deborah O'Roarke, is the younger sister of the heroine of Night Shift. It's some years on from the event of that book, and she's now an assistant district attorney in Urbana, Illinois. She's got a good track record, and she's generally considered to be an up-and-coming lady. We even get to see her in action in the court room, and she rocks.
However, she's also the type to do her own legwork. Which lands her in the situationBatman Nemesis rescues her from. (Though, she was on the verge of rescuing herself from it.)
Several nights later, she meets Gage Guthrie, ex-cop millionaire philanthropist. The chemistry's immediate, though he's rather pushy about it. Deborah is good at putting him in his place, though.
Later on in the book, there's a really nice bit where Deborah is fretting over her attraction to both Gage and Nemesis and decides she needs to cool it with both of them until she sorts out her feelings. Meanwhile, Gage is all "I am competing with myself" and wants to headwall.
Even later in the book, she really takes him to task over the secret identity and how he made her doubt herself with that bullshit. And how he doesn't trust her, when he still doesn't give her things she needs to know "to protect her", and if he doesn't cut that out, she is going to walk. She loves him, but she wants a lasting relationship, not a fling.
I really enjoyed the book, a lot moreso than Night Shift. Liked Gage much more than Boyd, though both Cilla and Deborah are equal amounts of awesome. The book made me ship the hero and heroine to the point where I wanted them to get married and have kids and continue kicking all the ass. Fortunately, this is a romance novel, not a comic, so I get that kind of thing.
